EMBAH SAFARI

DAY TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS

2006-2007


PROJECT "SAFARI"

"for the conservation of life . . ."

We support local environmental and conservation issues and have put together various projects which helps replace what mass tourism can take out of a Desert civilization. Depending on the current project we can arrange for you take part and learn more about the land and people of Sinai.
Depart Dahab 8am by jeep and drive 1-2 hrs to reach project base camp. The day will be spent interacting on the daily procedures and understanding the need for such a project. Lunch will be served at the camp and we return to Dahab app. 7pm.

On-going projects:

  • Wildlife conservation,
  • Tree planting in desert,
  • Water irrigation systems for Bedouin,
  • Education & health for local populations,
  • Women of the desert,
    & many others........

SNORKELLING

(at the Blue Hole, Southern Oasis, Ras Mohamed or Ras Abu Galloum).

BLUE HOLE - Depart 10am, and drive 40 mins north of Dahab to the Blue Hole.
This dive & snorkel site is famous for the depth of the hole and the dramatic walls of coral. Whether you snorkel close to the edge, watching the little fishes or hang in the Blue, it certainly is adventure not to be missed! Return to Dahab approx 2pm.
SOUTHERN OASIS - Depart 10 am and drive 30 mins south of Dahab to the palm lined beach of Southern Oasis. With it’s beautiful coral reef & lagoon area for easy access, this wonderful location is great for full and half day trips.
RAS MOHAMED - Depart 8am, and drive 1.5 hrs into the National Park of Ras Mohamed, a world famous site for it’s colourful coral reef & marine life and the spectacular coastline. Lunch is taken on location and the afternoon is spent exploring the rugged beaches and a visit to the National Park center. return to Dahab app. 5pm.
RAS ABU GALLOUM - Depart 8am by jeep and drive 40 mins to te Blue Hole the last reachable point by vechile. Here we meet our camels and once equipment is loaded we start a 1 hr trek along the coastline of the Gulf of Aqaba.Ras Abu Galloum is reknowned for it’s tranquility and easy access snorkelling sites. Once a tented Bedouin camp, today only a couple of families and fishermen reside.
There are many sites in which to discover the underwater beauty and a great wadi running inland offers a chance to explore a naturally formed canyon, 30mins trek from the coast. Lunch is prepared and served at Ras Abu Galloum, and we return to Dahab approx 6pm.

DESERT SAFARI

(by 4 X 4 JEEP OR CAMEL).

Explore the areas of canyons, oasis, plateaus, sand-dunes & Bedouin camps .
4 X 4 JEEP - Depart 8am driving northeast to the entrance of the desert.
Trip includes off road driving through wadis & open desert, walking through one of the amazingly coloured canyons, and mingling with the Bedouin at an oasis while lunch is being prepared. Then on to further locations: rock of inscriptions, tombs of Nawamis, mushroom rock and a choice of many various canyons. Return to Dahab approx 6pm or 8pm if you wish to see a beautiful sunset over the plateau.
CAMEL - Depart Dahab and drive approx 50km, to the entrance of the Desert. Here we are met by the local Bedouin tribe, our hosts for the trip. Equipment is loaded onto the camels and we take our seats for the ride! It doesn’t take long til you get into the rhythm of the camel and enjoy the silence of the desert and the spectacular landscapes. We descend the canyon by foot and arrive at a beautiful oasis for some refreshments. Lunch is prepared and served on location. After lunch we continue on route crossing wadis and mountain ranges, before returning to the road and transfer to Dahab approx 6pm.

SUNSET TREK

(can combine a DESERT SLEEPOVER).

Depart Dahab at 3pm and trek 1 hr into the local wadi’s and mountain range. The trek is designed to enjoy the amazing desert sunset while moving at camel pace in pure silence. We will stop on location to rest and enjoy some traditional Bedouin Tea.
For the Desert sleepover we would set up camp on location and sit around the fire, while dinner was being prepared and cooked on the open fire. With nothing but candle lite and the star movie in the sky....To sleepover in the desert is to witness one of the most peaceful and memorable experiences.
Return to Dahab 11pm or 10 am if sleepover.


4 X 4 JEEP SAFARI to ST CATHERINE'S MONASTERY & DESERT.

Depart Dahab 8am and drive approx 2hrs to reach St Catherine’s. We visit the Monastery till closing time at 12 noon. Giving us plenty time to walk around the church and gardens, and take an idea of the history of the Monastery. We take to the road and head into the Desert to enjoy lunch at a Bedouin camp. The desert part of this trip takes us into one of the natural wonders of the world...the Double Canyon! An extremely beautiful canyon, of natural erosion, and dramatic views. We return back to Dahab approx 6pm.

BEDOUIN DINNER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Depart Dahab 6pm by Jeep and drive 30 min to one of the local wadis, winding inland from the beach.
We arrive at the camp location just as the sun is going and settle down for a relaxing & peaceful evening under the stars. Dinner is prepared and cooked on the open fire, all in true Bedouin tradition, with an ever lasting flow of sweetened Bedouin Tea. Return to Dahab approx 11pm.
